Food, environment and neurotoxins (2)

It is estimated that many diseases and the majority of all cancers are a direct result of toxins in our environment and food. Since we breathe, eat and drink, chemicals continuously enter into our bloodstream through  digestive system and lung.

All the toxins which can pass through the blood brain barrier(BBB) potentially can reach any and every cell in our body including neuronal cells. Some of these substances have neurotoxic effects. Heavy metals - lead, mercury, cadmium and pesticides are the most dangerous part of environmental contamination and they all are neurotoxins. In case they are odorless and/or colorless it makes impossible their sensory detection. The symptoms of poisoning from environmental pollution may not be observable because of their gradually build-up.

Neurotoxins act directly on neuronal and muscle cell membranes changing their functional activity. Since the nervous system is connected to the immune system, neurotoxins eventually affect our immune system. Thus, our thinking and feeling normally can be dramatically affected by exposure to toxins. Can we avoid this danger? In fact, we don’t have many options. Today the only remaining practical way is getting Organic Foods. But how long? Another question is : can ordinary people  afford organic food prices ?
